LAHORE: A lifetime achievement award has been presented to General (retd) Raheel Sharif, the former army chief and current Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC). The Government College University Lahore presented him with the award.
Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, the Vice-Chancellor of Government College University Lahore, bestowed the award upon him. During the ceremony, General (retd) Sharif addressed the students. He emphasized the significance of three fundamental attributes in life: Character, Courage, and Competence.

Prof. Zaidi highlighted that certain students bring pride to their alma mater, and they recognized General (retd) Sharif as one such individual.
General (retd) Sharif discussed his personal journey, which included his family’s connection with GCU and the impact of his elder brother, Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider, Military). Major Shabbir Sharif, an Old Ravian, epitomized fearlessness and the essence of sacrifice.
The event highlighted General (retd) Sharif’s crucial role in eradicating terrorism within the country and his role as the first military commander of the IMCTC. This position represents 42 nations united in the pursuit of global peace and security.
General (retd) Sharif served as Pakistan’s 9th Chief of Army Staff (COAS). He led the country’s armed forces from 2013 to 2016. His leadership played a pivotal role in overseeing significant anti-terrorism operations nationwide. Particularly noteworthy was Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan to dismantle Taliban strongholds and usher in stability throughout the country.
Following his retirement, he assumed leadership of the multinational coalition IMCTC since its establishment in 2017. He is still heading the position.
