KARACHI / ISLAMABAD: A leakage of ammonia gas occurred in a factory at the fisheries, resulting in the loss of consciousness for twenty-nine women and children. They had to be transported to hospitals, as reported by the area police, hospital sources, and rescue services.
Officials from the Dock police station reported the preliminary inquiry findings. They stated that a leaked pipe at a private seafood company in the fisheries area of West Wharf started emitting ammonia gas.
The gas spread throughout the neighborhood and affected 29 women and children. The officials mentioned that these individuals fell unconscious due to inhaling the gas.
They stated that 14 women were transported to the Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, while an additional 15 women and children were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
The police reported that the company’s engineers promptly arrived at the factory to initiate repairs on the pipe and seal the leakage.
Addressing certain rumors, Docks SHO Pervez Solangi refuted any claims of a cylinder explosion transpiring at the factory. He confirmed that the incident indeed resulted from a gas leak, causing harm to the victims. He also clarified that no one was detained for interrogation.
Dr. Summaiya Syed, the police surgeon, reported that they brought 19 individuals who had been affected to the civil hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Zaka Ashraf, the head of the Management Committee, and Nawaz met to resolve the unpaid ex gratia payments issue dating back to January 2017.
The board’s statement indicates that the meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere at the National Cricket Academy, with the presence of former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez.
During the meeting, Ashraf presented Nawaz with a cheque to settle the payments according to the Players’ Welfare Policy. Ashraf also assured Nawaz of unwavering support.
