IHC Grants Permission for Imran Khan’s Lawyers to Meet Him

As of now, the court order has not made a decision to allow A-Class facilities yet

ISLAMABAD: While withholding a definitive ruling on the provision of A-class jail amenities, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted permission for Imran Khan’s legal counsel to visit him.

The order written by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq stated, “The jail authorities at Attock Jail shall provide due counsel access to the petitioner for signatures on Wakalatnama and instructions as provided in Jail Manual and other laws.”

The order permits three lawyers, namely Barrister Umair Niazi, Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, and Naeem Haider Panjutha, to visit Khan in jail.

Furthermore, the order rejects the objections raised by the registrar’s office regarding the immediate petition submitted by Imran’s legal team.

Following the issuance of the verdict by an Islamabad sessions court, law enforcement promptly apprehended the former prime minister in Lahore.

Authorities then transferred Imran Khan to Attock Jail, where he is currently serving a three-year prison sentence for his involvement in ‘corrupt practices’ related to the Toshakhana case.

Government sources have indicated that Imran is being provided with B-Class facilities during his incarceration.

On the other hand, his legal representatives and party supporters assert that authorities are subjecting him to subpar conditions in a C-Class cell.

Imran’s legal representatives also raised a concern regarding their inability to file his bail petitions, attributing it to their inability to secure a signed wakaltnama from him.

The legal team, furthermore, took the initiative to file a petition, seeking Imran’s transfer to Adiala Jail. This decision stems from the jail’s close proximity to Islamabad’s courts, where the PTI leader is currently managing a multitude of cases.

Meanwhile, following his conviction for “corrupt practices” in the Toshakhana case, Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in jail. A district and sessions court in Islamabad awarded sentence to Imran Khan.

The IHC Chief Justice, Aamer Farooq, presided over the case, with Khan’s counsel, Sher Afzal Marwat, presenting his arguments before the court on Wednesday.
