The face recognition system is exclusively operational at the Karachi airport.
KARACHI / ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) has installed a Face Recognition System at the Karachi airport to prevent criminals from fleeing the country.
The FIA made a formal request to the Sindh Police, seeking the data of criminals. The purpose behind this request was to enrich the face recognition database implemented at the Karachi Airport, allowing for more effective identification, and tracking of potential offenders.
The face recognition system is currently operational exclusively at the Karachi airport among all airports in the country. It has been integrated with the assistance of the installed cameras to enhance its functionality.
According to FIA authorities, if any accused individual passes through the cameras, the system will promptly notify the monitoring room about the criminal data.
However, it’s worth noting that the process of identifying the accused is currently challenging because the face recognition system has not been activated at the country’s airports, including Islamabad and Lahore.
A Report Reveals That More Than 7000 Illegal And Unauthorized Fuel Pumps Are Currently Operating In Pakistan
Meanwhile, the latest audit report from the Auditor General of Pakistan has brought to light the operation of approximately 7000 illegal petrol pumps scattered throughout the country. The report has raised serious concerns regarding the performance and oversight of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
According to the audit report, OGRA’s actions have contributed to the hoarding and smuggling of petroleum products, enabling illegal activities to flourish in the industry.
One particularly alarming finding in the report was the joint storage of crude oil by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). The report identified this practice as facilitating unscrupulous activities within the sector.
