ISLAMABAD: In a letter addressed to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi described the complaints against him as “frivolous” and alleged that they are part of an “anti-judiciary campaign.”
Justice Naqvi received the letter of accusation, which pertains to alleged wrongdoing in relation to his property records and income tax returns.
A fellow judge reportedly raised the allegations and then submitted them to the head of the Supreme Judicial Council(SJC).
As per the rules, individuals are to submit complaints against judges to the head of the SJC, and on May 29, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood referred the matter.
Justice Naqvi has expressed his “surprise” at this behavior, stating that no other member of the SJC has ever acted in this manner.
He has also accused the judge who levelled allegations of being “impatient” to initiate proceedings against him.
Justice Naqvi, a top court judge, mentioned that the SJC currently has several pending complaints against serving judges.
In his letter, he expressed confidence that they will dismiss the allegations against him upon investigation.
He further stated that he is “committed” to serving the judiciary. He affirmed that he will “continue to discharge duties with honesty and integrity.”

Saira Bano raised the issue in the National Assembly Standing Committee on Energy meeting today. The meeting was led by Riyaz Mazari.
She expressed concern that the price per unit of electricity has now reached up to Rs50.
“We have protected consumers consuming up to 200 units of electricity. What will happen to those who have 201 units,” said the energy secretary.
He further added, “Those with 201 units will also not be counted as protected consumers.”
