Islamabad court rejects Imran Khan’s witnesses in Toshakhana case

ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad rejected PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s witnesses in the Toshakhana case.

The court observed that the ex-premier had not demonstrated their “relevance” in the ongoing criminal proceedings against him.
The ECP had filed a complaint against Imran for concealing details of Toshakhana gifts. Additional District and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar heard the case on Wednesday.

During the previous hearing, the court had raised 35 questions, and Imran had submitted his response to them.
However, during the latest hearing, the Judge noted that the PTI lawyer had submitted a list of defense witnesses, but he failed to present them in court.
The judge pointed out that a list of four witnesses had been provided, and the court was asked to set a date for recording their statements.
However, Imran did not record the statements of private witnesses, nor did he submit the list of government witnesses.

The Judge further observed that all the witnesses chosen by Imran were tax consultants, whereas the case against the PTI chief pertained to hiding assets and submitting a fake affidavit.
Therefore, he clarified that the court was not considering entries related to wealth statements and income tax.
As a result, the court ruled that Imran Khan had not proven the relevance of the witnesses and he could not be granted permission to present them in court.
The court subsequently summoned both respondents for final arguments the next day at 11 am. Judge warned that a verdict would be reserved if they refused to appear in court.
