KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: In Karachi, another woman faced sexual harassment in a neighborhood, marking the third such incident in the metropolis.
On August 1, at 10:55 am, a burqa-clad woman was sexually harassed by a man riding a motorcycle while passing through a street near Madina Masjid in Federal B Area Block 17.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, clearly showing the perpetrator who easily fled the scene when the woman resisted and called for help. Despite onlookers gathering after the incident, the harasser managed to escape before being apprehended.
The police, once again, failed to catch the suspect. No one has approached the police to initiate an investigation into the matter, and the victim’s identity remains unknown. The authorities are in the process of obtaining footage from other nearby cameras to aid in the investigation.
Karachi has been witnessing a concerning trend of harassment against women. With incidents seeming to be on the rise. Since the first incident of street harassment came to light. The first case involved a man sexually harassing a veiled woman in broad daylight in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Which was followed by a similar incident in Orangi Town.
While the police managed to arrest the suspect in the Orangi Town case, the perpetrator responsible for the Jauhar incident remains at large.
Despite recording statements from over 100 individuals, the police have made no significant progress in apprehending the suspect.
