ISLAMABAD: The government sets a two-day deadline for all political parties in the ruling alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), to name a caretaker prime minister.
The consultative meeting of the coalition parties took place at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Tuesday, with representatives from the coalition parties in attendance.
The government asked the parties to nominate names for the caretaker position after consulting with their leadership within two days. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hinted at dissolving the current National Assembly (NA) before its official tenure, as it is due to dissolve on August 12.
The caretaker government will be responsible for overseeing the general election, expected to be held in October.

PM Shehbaz Sharif rejects the appointment of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar as the caretaker prime minister. He asserted that they would select a neutral person to lead the interim setup.
It will ensure transparency in the upcoming general elections. The premier stated this on a TV program on Sunday. Premier’s remarks came in response to rumors suggesting Dar’s appointment as the interim prime minister.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of appointing a non-partisan politician to this position. He said that this is essential to avoid any doubts about the election results.
He aligned with his coalition partners’ stance, who also supported the idea of a neutral individual leading the caretaker set-up.
Moreover, Shehbaz Sharif said that the government will consult all the key stakeholders to appoint an interim Prime Minister and ministers.
