ISLAMABAD: Today, Islamabad police announced that they have recorded the statement of a teenage maid who was allegedly subjected to severe torture by a civil judge’s wife.
On Monday, the employers, a civil judge in Islamabad, and his wife allegedly tortured a teenage girl from Sargodha, leading to her transfer to Lahore General Hospital.
The girl’s medico-legal certificate (MLC) revealed numerous injuries, including lacerations on her head, face, and body, swollen lips, broken teeth, nosebleeds, multiple bruises, and a fractured forearm, along with signs of attempted strangulation.
After initial reluctance, Islamabad police registered a first information report (FIR) on July 26. The report booked the judge’s wife for criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement. However, it did not mention physical torture.
The Lahore High Court granted protective bail to the judge’s wife until August 1.
The Islamabad police confirmed recording statements from the victim and her father, but they are still awaiting the medical report. They assured that they are investigating all those involved in the crime. They will take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
In a tweet today, the Islamabad police said they have recorded the statements of the victim and her father. They had not yet received the medical report.
The police emphasized that child labor is a crime, urging the public to report any such incidents to the authorities.
Previously, a police officer disclosed that the capital police launched an investigation and sent a team to Lahore and other cities to arrest the accused.
The relevant police station is handeling the investigation instead of the specialized unit mandated to handle offenses against juveniles under the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act 2021.
The police team conducted raids in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Gujranwala but was unsuccessful in apprehending the accused, who had obtained pre-arrest bail.
Upon receiving information about the bail, the team was directed to meet the victim and her family in Lahore.
Accordingly, the team met with the girl and her family at a hospital, recording their statements.
The case
The Humak police registered the case based on the father’s complaint. He had arranged for his daughter to work at the judge’s house in Zartaj Housing Society through an acquaintance, with a promised monthly salary of Rs10,000. On July 23, the family visited the judge’s house and found the girl injured and in tears in one of the rooms.
The FIR detailed the girl’s injuries: infected wounds on her head, face, arms, and legs, a broken tooth, swollen lips and eyes, and broken ribs with strangulation marks on her neck.
The girl disclosed that the judge’s wife subjected her to daily torture with batons and spoons, deprived her of dinner, and kept her confined in a room.
They took her to Sargodha DHQ Hospital, but her condition deteriorated, necessitating her referral to Lahore for further medical attention.
