In the Indian state of West Bengal, a shocking incident occurred where a couple sold their eight-month-old infant to purchase the latest iPhone for creating Instagram reels.
According to reports, the couple also attempted to sell their seven-year-old daughter, but the police thwarted the effort and arrested the woman who was attempting to buy the child.
The man involved, identified as Jay Dev, was arrested when he tried to sell his daughter after a neighbor reported the incident to the police.
According to their neighbors, the couple was frequently in a state of addiction and had conflicts with both family members and neighbors.
The mother of the infant admitted to the police that they sold their son to buy an iPhone for making reels on Instagram.
In a different incident in India, a hospital purchased a newborn baby boy from a poverty-stricken Dalit couple after they were unable to pay medical bills amounting to Rs 35,000.
According to the details, Babita, 36, gave birth to a baby boy through surgery at a hospital in Agra. The medical expenses, including the operation and medicines, amounted to Rs 35,000. However, her husband, Shiva Charan, 45, a rickshaw puller, couldn’t afford to pay the bills.
The couple stated that they informed the hospital about their financial situation, but the administration allegedly coerced them into selling their baby for Rs 1 lakh to settle the bill.
