The court issued a show-cause notice and fined Rs50,000 each to the officers who transferred the PTI president to Adiala Jail without permission.
ISLAMABAD: The Special Central Court of Lahore has ordered the suspension of the salaries of the Punjab IGP, the prisons IGP, and the home secretary due to their failure to present Chaudhry Parvez Elahi.
A show-cause notice issued to the three officers for transferring the PTI president to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail without permission and fined them Rs50,000 each by the court.
The court instructed the Punjab accountant general to suspend the salaries of the three officers.
The court was handling the money laundering case against Elah. The police failed to present him in court despite orders. Therefore, the court issued orders for not presenting the former chief minister and demanded his presence at the next hearing.
Additionally, the court directed the investigating officer to submit the complete investigation report at the next hearing . The court futher warned of possible action in case of non-compliance.
Earlier, the court had directed the police to ensure Elahi’s presence during the proceedings. The authorities of Adiala Jail Rawalpindi also presented a report in court.
The report mentioned that according to the jail rules, the government’s permission is required to present anyone before the court.
The authorities wrote a letter to the Home Department as per the court’s orders to summon Elahi. And they did not receive any reply.
The FIA Special Central Court summoned the PTI president based on an incomplete investigation report.
Judge Bakht Fakhar asked the DIG operations about the whereabouts of Parvez Elahi. In response, DIG Nasir Rizvi informed the court that his team was present outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. The authorities were not handing over Elahi to them.
The court raised the question of how the authorities transferred the former CM to Rawalpindi without court permission.
