ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan cooperated with the FIA‘s joint inquiry team in the cypher and audio leaks case, providing answers for over two hours.
The team asked him about the cypher and also about statements made by his former principal secretary, Azam Khan. The authorities further questioned Imran Khan about information gathered from Asad Umar and Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The inquiry included questions about the disappearance of the cypher and audio leaks. There were also questions regarding various statements made by Imran Khan.
The former premier clarified that minutes of both meetings of the National Security Committee on the cypher are available.
The JIT plans to continue its investigation based on the statements related to the cypher.
Given Imran Khan’s appearance at the FIA headquarters in the cypher and audio leaks case, Islamabad police implemented security measures. The FIA’s Quick Response Team was on alert outside the headquarters. The FIA had summoned Imran Khan for the inquiry at noon.
The verdict on Imran Khan’s plea against FIA summons has been reserved
The Islamabad High Court has reserved its decision on PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s petition against the FIA summons related to the cypher issue. The court is reviewing the maintainability of the case after hearing arguments from Imran Khan’s lawyer, Latif Khosa.
Khosa stated that the FIA initiated the inquiry into the cypher issue based on the cabinet’s directives and questioned whether the cabinet has the authority to give instructions to the FIA. He suggested discussing the matter in a parliamentary committee.
The court observed that the petitioner essentially challenged the FIA’s summons notice issued on July 19.
Khosa emphasized that tapping any prime minister’s phone is a crime, and this issue pertains to the Prime Minister’s Office, not just the PTI chairman. Imran Khan, a former prime minister, is unaware of the reason for his summons.
The lawyer also mentioned the interior minister’s statement, noting that arrests can be made during an inquiry.
