LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has expressed concern over the flooding situation in Jhang district. In Jhang, the Chenab River water has entered more than 40 villages, exacerbating the situation. As a precautionary measure, evacuations are being intensified to ensure the safety of the villagers affected by the floods.

Naqvi took to Twitter to share helicopter footage showing the extent of the flooded lands. The visuals are reminiscent of the devastating floods that occurred last year. Those floods caused widespread damage and affected a significant portion of the country.

The chief minister’s tweet highlights the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate action to address the flooding. The government, along with relevant authorities and rescue teams, is likely working to provide relief. The efforts include evacuating residents to safer areas and providing assistance to those affected by the floods.

The images serve as a reminder of the challenges posed by natural disasters. The footage also signifies the importance of preparedness, early warning systems, and effective disaster management strategies to mitigate the impact on vulnerable communities.

The recent rain spells in the catchment areas of the Sutlej and Ravi rivers in the northern states of India have resulted in increased water releases towards downstream areas in Pakistan. In response to this, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab, Pakistan, has placed several districts on high alert due to the flood situation.

The Meteorological Department in Pakistan has forecasted another spell of monsoon rains. The rains will start from July 13 to 17 in the upper and central parts of the country. With these anticipated rains, the PDMA has completed the necessary preparations to address the potential flooding in areas connected to the Chenab River.

Relief camps have been established in various districts, including Kasur, Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan, Wazirabad, and Okara. These camps serve as operational bases for officers and personnel engaged in rescue and relief operations. The number of personnel involved varies across districts, with a significant focus on areas prone to flooding.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed is closely monitoring the situation across all districts and overseeing the operations. The PDMA and relevant authorities are working diligently to address the challenges posed by the flood situation. The aim is to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected communities.

The timely response, preparation, and increased personnel involvement demonstrate the commitment of the authorities to effectively manage the flood situation and provide necessary support to the affected areas.
