Yasmin Rashid, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was sent to jail on 14-day Judicial Remand on Monday by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore in relation to the attack on Lahore’s Jinnah House during the vandalism that took place on May 9.
The Lahore police arrested Rashid on May 17, despite the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) directive to suspend the detention of PTI workers, including Rashid, under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
The police demanded physical remand for the former Punjab minister during the session.
The court, however, dismissed the argument and incarcerated Rashid for 14 days while on judicial remand.
The PTI leader is charged with making an anti-institutional remark on May 9 during the violent protests that broke out after Imran Khan, the party’s leader, was taken into custody in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case.
On May 22, the court had previously given the PTI leader a three-day physical remand.
Several complaints involving terrorism and other major offences were filed against her at the Sarwar Road, Gulberg, and Shadman police stations.
PTI supporters and workers are accused of damaging and vandalising public and military facilities, including Jinnah House and General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, during the violent rallies that lasted for over three days across the country.
The court concurrently granted PTI leader Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed a two-day physical remand.
Both Rashid and Rasheed have stated their intention to stick with the Imran Khan-led party despite the widespread exodus of party stalwarts following the riots on May 9.
