PHF Announces Junior Hockey Asia Cup Squad:

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) selection committee revealed the 18-person squad for the junior hockey Asia Cup.

The team consultant Roeland Oltmans, manager and chief coach Hanif Khan, other coaches Adnan Zakir, Zeeshan Ashraf, Asif Ahmed Khan, Syed Ali Abbas, and physiotherapist Waqas Mehmood, as well as other members of the coaching panel, observed the trials at DHA Arena.

The squad includes Muhammad Abdullah as the captain, with Ali Raza, Muhammad Faizan, Aqeel Ahmed, Arbaaz Ahmed, Ehtesham Aslam, Muhammad Sufyan, Muhammad Murtaza Yaqoob, Arbaaz Ayaz, Arshad Liaquat, Ali Murtaza, Zikria Hayat, Abdur Rehman, Abdul Qayyun Dogar, Abdul Hanan Shahid (vice-captain), Abdul Wahab, Basharat Ali, and Bilal Akram as the other members.

The Junior Asia Cup of Hockey’s stand-by players, that the selection committee announced are Muhammad Bilal Aslam, goalie Bilal Khan, Muhammad Baqir, Muhammad Nadeem Khan, Muhammad Adnan, and Waqar Ali.

Pakistan, their bitter rival India, as well as Japan, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei, are all in Pool A of the competition.

On May 23, they will play Chinese Taipei; the following day, they will play Thailand.

The highly anticipated match between Pakistan & India will take place on May 27.

While Pakistan’s last group-stage match will take place on May 29 against Japan.

To secure a place in the Junior Asia Cup, Pakistan will need to make it to the semifinals, as Malaysia has already qualified as the host nation.

Also, The much-awaited match of the next ODI World Cup 2023 will take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on October 15; Pakistan and India are likely to face each other.
