TEHRAN/ISLAMABAD: Iranian banks gave 1,240 trillion rials in marriage loans in a year. In the US dollar, this amount is equal to $2.5 billion in the Iranian calendar year, ending March 2023.
Total marriage loans increased by 55 percent year on year in 2022-23.

Iranian deputy sports and youth minister Vahid Yaminpour disclosed this on Friday, Tehran Times reported on Friday.
According to 2021 data, total population in Iran stood at 87.21 million.

If the trend of decreasing fertility rate, increasing single-child families, declining marriage rate, and increasing divorce rate continues for the next 30 years in Iran, old age will prevail in the country and one in three people will be over 60-years-old. This will lead to a crisis in the country.

Other factors of decline in the fertility rate involve socioeconomic issues such as urbanization, education, financial issues, first marriage age, increasing divorce rate. Increased access to family planning services along with increased time gap between the firstborn and marriage are affecting fertility rate.
Therefore, the Iranian Parliament has approved a population growth and family support plan for seven years to improve fertility rate in the country.
The population growth plan envisages health insurance for infertile couples, facilities for working women, and health and nutrition packages for mothers and children. Educational opportunities for student mothers, livelihood support to families, and ongoing medical services to pregnant women are also included in the plan.
Importantly, the Expediency Council of Iran seeks a one-year extension of the Sixth Five-Year National Development Plan (2016-2021), it was decided to implement the plan for 7 years.
Iran has estimated that population growth will be zero in 2040 that will be followed by a negative growth. Thus, the biggest concern is that Iran’s population will age in the upcoming years with a decline in the fertility rate.
