Non-bailable arrest warrant issued against Imran Khan
On Monday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for failing to attend the hearing of the case against him for threatening a female judge.
The court, presided over by Civil Judge Rana Mujahid Rahim, released the three-page verdict and ordered the police to produce Khan before it by March 29.
The court dismissed Khan’s petition seeking exemption from attending the hearing in person and filing a plea for joining the court proceedings virtually.
During the hearing, a lawyer for Khan, Intezar Haider Panjutha, stated that they have filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking permission to appear virtually before the courts due to security threats against Khan.
Earlier, the sessions court had rejected the PTI chief’s plea.
The judge said that if Imran Khan does not appear during court hours today, he would issue a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.
After that, the court briefly adjourned the hearing till 12:30 pm and later resumed it.
A case has been registered against the PTI chairman at Islamabad’s Margalla police station for hurling threatening remarks at judge Zeba Chaudhry.
