Rs 2 billion “Salaamis” Scam at the weddings of daughters of a Bureaucrat: Khawaja Asif

He also claimed that the collection of cars and ornaments as gifts from guests was in addition to cash at the weddings.

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif today disclosed a scam in the National Assembly saying that influential people contributed two billion rupees “Salaamis” at the weddings of two daughters of a bureaucrat.

Khawaja Asif said that at the wedding of the first daughter of a bureaucrat, the collection of “Salaamis” amounted to 1.20 billion rupees.

Meanwhile, when the Bureaucrat arranged the wedding of his second daughter, the influential guests present there, gave 72 crore rupees “Salaamis” while the process of collection of cash from invited guests was going on.

Khawaja Asif disclosed this while speaking on the floor of the National Assembly. He said that Chaudhry Pervez Elahi himself told him about the collection of 72 crore rupees “Salaamis” at the wedding of the second daughter of the same bureaucrat.

According to Khawaja Asif, the man who was collecting “Salaamis” at the wedding was a friend of Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi and belonged to his constituency.

During the wedding, Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi asked his friend “how much money has been collected as “Salaamis”,” he replied 72 crore rupees, adding that the collection process was still going on at that time.

Khawaja Asif also claimed that the collection of cars and ornaments as gifts from guests was in addition to cash at the weddings.

He said this happened during the tenure of the PTI government.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, however, did not disclose the name of the bureaucrat in the National Assembly. He, however, said that the Baboo was still working in Grade 21 or 22.

Khawaja Asif said that no one bothered to investigate the bureaucrat for generating crores of rupees “Salaamis” at the weddings of his two daughters. It is easy to arrest politicians, but difficult to apprehend Baboos, he added.
