Islamabad’s Recently Upgraded Srinagar Highway is Dangerous For Bikers

ISLAMABAD: Residents of the area have requested that the relevant authorities take corrective measures to ease the burden on bike riders and pedestrians on the Srinagar Highway.

Residents of the twin cities have declared the Srinagar highway dangerous and have requested authorities to take action.

According to a media report, the Srinagar Highway has become unsafe for pedestrians and bikers due to a lack of pedestrian bridges.

The Srinagar Highway has seen an unprecedented increase in vehicle traffic due to the lack of necessary pedestrian and bike rider bridges, making it extremely dangerous for both bike riders and pedestrians.

From the Srinagar Highway, no one is permitted to enter Sector G-7, which houses the civic agency’s offices and Khadda Market.

Once they exit the Metro Bus at the stop on the left, they are unable to cross the street in the direction of Aabpara or sector G-7.

Public Comments

Abu Rehan, an Islamabad resident, stated, “I use this road daily. Since U-turns were made the road is good for non-stop travel right till Aabpara. However, there should be speed checks by traffic police, motorcycle lanes, pedestrian/overhead crossings, more reflecting cat eyes, etc. These measures will make travel safe.” He said, “I also see many people walking on both sides of the road and intending to cross the road. Then some of them dangerously come on the road to get the way in the speedy traffic.”

A bike rider, Khizar Abbasi said “I use the bike but I see bike riders riding without side mirrors or helmets and they switch lanes without giving indicator. Most of them also use the wrong way to get to the nearest U-turn.” Usama Qureshi, another resident, said “Last week I had an accident on this same highway due to the uneven road. The line between the asphalt road and concrete road is just a dead line for bike riders.”
