I will Never Join Politics: Former ISI DG Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed

The former spymaster, retired Lt Gen Faiz Hamid, denies rumours that he will enter politics or join the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The former director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) responded after being caught in a viral video attending a PTI rally in his hometown of Chakwal, Pakistan, weeks after leaving the service.

A local PTI leader made the invitation to the former three-star general while he was speaking at the event and the video went viral.

The speaker, Chaudhry Khursheed, vice-president of PTI Chakwal, praises the former soldier for his contributions to the nation.

Mr. Hamid clarified to the media, though, that he had no present or future plans to enter politics.

Days after Gen Asim Munir and Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza were appointed by the federal government as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, respectively, he retired from active duty (CJCSC).

The former spymaster was vying for one of the Pakistan Army’s most coveted positions.

On December 2, Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, approved his request for early retirement.
