Noble Laureate, Malala Yousafzai, met with Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the Chief Minister of Punjab, on Wednesday to discuss the promotion of education, particularly for girls, as well as the STEAM initiative.
Yousfzai also spoke about the issue of corporal punishment in religious seminaries and schools.
The Chief Minister of Punjab has assured Malala that his government will pass a bill prohibiting corporal punishment this month. โWe will implement the law on giving physical punishment and this law will be passed by the Punjab Assembly during the current month,โ he stated.
Additionally, CM Elahi directed the secretary of the school education department to convene a meeting to discuss the release of a budget of Rs165 million for STEAM education in addition to ordering the recruitment of 10,000 teachers in this field.
