ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court today dropped contempt of court notice against PTI leader Asad Umer after he filed an unconditional apology in the court on Wednesday morning.
Asad Umer said, “My aim was not to target the courts or the judges.” PTI leader stated this today when the LHC Rawalpindi bench started hearing of a case against Asad Umer.
PTI leader said that he and his party leaders respect and they will upheld judiciary’s respecting in the future.
He said, “My speech did not mention any judge.”
LHC Judge Jawad Hassan told the PTI leader that he has his videos but does not want to play them in court.
Judge also said that the problem was not the contempt of court but the allegations Asad Umer leveled against institutions and their representatives.
“We are fully aware of what you said. Court has your video statement, you know what you said in your speech,” Justice Hassan told Asad Umar.
LHC Judge further said that the courts allowed the PTI to hold its long march but PTI leaders targeted the courts.
The judge also told the PTI leader that Article 50 of the Constitution allows right to movement and Article 60 right to democracy but not criticism of institutions.
“If I crossed any line with my statements then I apologise,” Umar responded.
After his unconditional apology, the Rawalpindi bench of the LHC disposed of the contempt case against the PTI leader.
