JIT’s Final Report on Imran Khan’s Attack concludes No evidence of a Second Assailant
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab government’s joint investigation team (JIT) probing into the attack on PTI’s “Haqeeqi Azadi March” in Wazirabad on Nov 3 did not find any evidence of a second attacker.
The JIT visited the site of the attack three times in Wazirabad, and questioned and recorded statements of over 800 police personnel during its investigation.
The team got written statements from 90 cops and questioned another 700. The statements of Gujrat DPO, Wazirabad deputy superintendent of police and Wazirabad City SHO were also recorded.
The personnel of Punjab police, deployed on the sides and roof of the container, were also questioned and none of them confirmed the presence of second assailant.
The PTI chairman had claimed that there were two shooters. The JIT also got evidence of firing by a guard standing on the container, Tribune reported today.
On Nov 3, PTI chief Imran Khan was wounded by gunfire in Wazirabad when he was leading a long march on a container.
One person died in the firing while a dozen PTI members and the chairman’s close circle, including Senator Faisal Javed, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Ahmad Chattha, and Imran Yousaf, were injured.
