Islamabad police register FIRs against PTI leaders for vandalism, attacking security officials

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have registered different cases against several PTI leaders and long march participants for attacking the security officials and damaging the public property.

The cases against PTI leaders and workers have been registered at I-8 Police Station in Islamabad. According to FIR, the cases have been registered under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty); 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

The I-8 Police Station’s jurisdiction over Faizabad area in Islamabad, where clashes were reported between police, PTI protesters on Friday as the PTI chief gave a nationwide call to protest against attempt on his life in Wazirabad during long-march on Thursday.

Thousands of PTI protesters tried to enter Islamabad from Faizabad on Friday while police stopped them, which led to clashes and violence.

According to FIR, “About 250-300 protesters under the leadership of PTI leaders Amir Mehmood Kayani, Ali Ahmed Awan, Wasif Qayyum, and Chaudhry Shoaib, etc., moved towards Faizabad and they provoked party activists to attack police and FC personnel on Friday.”

At least nine FC personnel and five police officers sustained injuries in the attack of PTI men.

On Friday, Asad Omar, secretary-general of PTI, on the advice of chairman Imran Khan, announced countrywide protests to show their resentment against assassination attempt on Imran Khan which led to clashes in many cities.
