Videos and pictures of a woman have been shared on social media by users who claim to be the mother of slain Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif.
The claim is untrue.
As she remembers journalist and news anchor Arshad Sharif, who was killed in Kenya on Sunday, the posts show an older woman crying.
The caption for the video reads, “After Arshad Sharif’s martyrdom, his mother’s statement while crying.”
Over 700,000 people have watched the video as well as 57,000 sharing and liking it on Facebook.
Over 300,000 people watched the same video after it appeared on Twitter.
The woman has been misidentified as the mother of the Pakistani journalist, 49.
In fact, Arshad Sharif’s real mother released a video message earlier this week requesting that people attend her son’s funeral in Kenya.
On October 26, Pakistan’s president is seen visiting the slain journalist’s family at their home, where the mother can also be seen.
