Apple’s AR/VR headset tipped to use iris scanning for Login & Payments

According to reports, Apple is working on a new VR/AR headset that will include iris recognition technology for logins and payments.

According to The Information, eye-scanning technology would employ multiple cameras, much like iOS features such as touch ID or face ID.

Furthermore, it would help distinguish Apple’s product from its main rival, the Meta Quest Pro, which was unveiled earlier this week by Facebook’s parent company.

Although the Quest Pro has inward-facing cameras capable of monitoring facial and eye activity, they are not currently used for identification.

According to the publication, the American tech giant will reportedly also use downward-facing cameras to record users’ legs, a part of the body that Meta is currently working to improve.

In 2023, Apple’s VR headset is anticipated to be available. Since the project has been in development for years, the timetable has apparently slipped multiple times.

It costs twice as much as the Quest Pro, which is promoted as a high-end headset for professionals rather than a mass-market consumer device, with a rumoured $3,000 price tag.
