The accountability court returned the Ramzan sugar mill reference against Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Sharif, citing recent changes to the NAB statute.
As a result of 1999 amendments to the Accountability Act, accountability courts around the nation have returned several NAB references against prominent political personalities as being outside the court’s jurisdiction.
The Accountability Court returned the NAB’s reference against former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani for corruption in USF funding on September 15, stating that the case was no longer within the court’s jurisdiction due to recent NAB amendments.
On September 13, the court returned six corruption references made against former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for renting power corruption.
In addition, references against PPP members Saleem Mandviwala, Aijaz Haroon, former KP chief minister Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, and PPP senator Rubeena Khalid have been reinstated following the recent amendments.
