Swat Blast: 2 policemen among 5 martyred

Tuesday: remote-controlled bombing at Bara Bandai Kotkay, Kabal tehsil, Swat area, claimed the lives of five people, including two police officers and a former member of a village defense committee.

Idrees Khan, the former chairman of the peace committee, was reportedly traveling when his car was targeted by a remote-controlled weapon. Idrees Khan, two police officers—Rambail Khan and Tauheed Khan—as well as two bystanders—were all instantly martyred.

It was discovered that the bystanders, whose names were unknown, were laborers who were traveling through the region at the time of the explosion. The explosion also caused damage to a vehicle. In 2009, 2010, and 2011, Idrees Khan remained a member of the committee.

Mahmood Khan, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has since taken notice of the occurrence and asked the inspector general of police to submit a report. He extended sympathy to the families of the victims and promised that their sacrifices wouldn’t be in vain. He promised to hold the violent offenders accountable.

It should be noted that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants were active in other places and had recently set up a checkpoint on the Balasur Top in the Matta tehsil of the Swat district. Locals organized demonstrations against the Taliban’s comeback and called for swift action against them. Additionally, a man from the Balasur neighborhood in the Matta Tehsil in the Swat district was reportedly kidnapped by the Taliban and held for ransom. Brother of the abducted Muhammad Farosh, Muhammad Hayat, filed a first information report (FIR) with the Counterterrorism Department, alleging that TTP militants had called from an Afghan mobile phone and demanded Rs. 10 million ransom.
