According to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Maryam Nawaz’s “controversial” social media campaign accusing PTI Chairman Imran Khan of blasphemy might put his life at risk and will result in legal action being taken against her.
On her Twitter account on Monday, Maryam Nawaz posted two alleged quotes from Imran Khan along with a similar number of verses from the Quran for comparison. “This man (Imran) is using religion for his politics and spreading his fake narrative,” she added in a tweet. “Save the nation and your beliefs from this devil”.
The PTI claims that following Maryam’s message, a trend against Imran Khan on Twitter developed, with over 65,000 tweets accusing the PTI chairman of blasphemy. Additionally, comments criticizing Ms. Nawaz urged her not to bring religion into politics since doing so might put lives in danger.
“This issue won’t go undetected by us, Maryam Nawaz would face legal consequences for putting the PTI chairman’s life in danger by exploiting the blasphemy law,” said senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry.
According to Mr. Chaudhry, the coalition administration is the only one that shamelessly employs blasphemy laws against political rivals. Maryam Nawaz and Fazlur Rehman are building this web to physically eliminate Imran Khan, which is the most egregious attempt to physically eliminate political opponents. He claimed Maryam Nawaz was responsible for these social media trends.
