The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a report containing the details of the damage caused by monsoon rains and floods in Punjab from June 15 to August 21, Geo News reported on Thursday.
The PDMA Punjab report states that heavy downpours submerged 69 schools and seven basic health centers under rainwater. Rains and flash floods unleashed devastations in 555,893 areas in six districts of the province.
Rajanpur, DG Khan, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Sialkot and Layyah are the most affected areas, according to the PDMA report. The rainwater inundated 201,965 agricultural areas and 12,628 houses under flood water
At least 151 people perished as a result of floods and storms, 606 were injured, and 341,077 were displaced, according to PDMA data.
Rain and flood caused the killing of almost two lakh large animals and 2,586 tiny animals, as well as the destruction of 37 highways and eight bridges. Seven canals were also devastated by the floodwaters.
The PDMA Punjab report indicates that 20,264 individuals and 516 animals were rescued from flood-affected areas. According to the report, the government has constructed at least 147 medical camps and 9,355 tent settlements for the afflicted population.
According to PDMA data, more over one million animals were vaccinated. Food baskets were provided to 19,839 individuals.
According to PDMA, rescue operations are currently ongoing in the province’s impacted areas, with 551 rescuers and 84 boats engaged in relief and rescue efforts.
The PDMA Punjab stated that the authority, in collaboration with other government organizations, is carrying out relief operations in flood-ravaged areas and that all available resources are being used to assist flood victims. Earlier on August 23, the PDMA stated that all organizations, including the Pakistan Army, District Administration, Rescue 1122, and the PDMA itself, are making concerted efforts to give aid in the flood-affected regions of Rajanpur and D G Khan.
