PTI chairman Imran Khan allowed to contest NA by-polls in Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib

ISLAMABAD: The Election Tribunal today allowed PTI Chairman Imran Khan to contest by-elections in two constituencies of National Assembly _ in Faisalabad and Nankana Sahib.

The tribunal of the Election Commission rejected the returning officer’s decision on NA-108/Faisalabad, and also disposed of PML-N’s plea against PTI chairman Imran Khan’s nomination papers for NA-118/Nankana Sahib.

Imran Khan had filed his nomination papers from nine constituencies of the National Assembly, but his nomination papers for NA-108 were turned down by the district election commissioner, while PML-N challenged the nomination for NA-118.

Imran Khan’s nomination papers for the remaining constituencies had already been accepted.

During the hearing of PML-N’s plea on Wednesday, the lawyer of petitioner said the affidavit submitted by Khan is not as per the legal requirements.

Justice Shahid Waheed, however, stated that the Supreme Court has ruled that the nomination papers cannot be rejected if they are not verified by the oath commissioner.

The justice asked the petitioner’s lawyer if they have any objection other than this.

The lawyer argued that Imran Khan did not declare in his tax return the items which he obtained from Toshakhana, for the years 2019 and 2020. He also shared details of items that Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, took from Toshakhana and but were not mentioned in the nomination papers.

The tribunal remarked that the candidate does not need to mention the details of the items taken from Toshakhana even if they have sold them.
