US drone strike in Kabul did not happen in Pakistani airspace: FO

On Thursday, Pakistan flatly denied reports that a US drone strike in Kabul that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri had used Pakistani airspace.

“I’d like to point you to the statement we made (earlier) about this incident. That’s where we stand.” “There is no evidence that this action was taken using Pakistan’s airspace, so this is something I can add,” said the spokesman for the Foreign Office at the weekly media briefing.

In a statement made on August 2, a spokesman for Pakistan was vague about the US drone strike. He said that Pakistan is committed to fighting terrorism in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions. Ayman al-Zahawiri wasn’t mentioned, and he hadn’t said anything about Pakistan’s airspace not being used.

“No information” about Zawahiri, who is the leader of Al-Qaeda, in Afghanistan: The drone that the Taliban used to kill Zawahiri did not operate from Pakistan:
Rana Sanullah, who is the Minister of Interior, was the first person to say that Pakistan’s airspace had not been used. He said this on Wednesday. “Like I said, what we had to say is in our statement. Our (previous) point needs to be made in its entirety. We said that Pakistan was committed to fighting terrorism in line with international law and UN resolutions. So that’s a clear statement,” he continued.

When he talked about the different UN resolutions on fighting terrorism, he pointed out that these resolutions have different international obligations. “When it comes to al-Qaeda, I think it’s clear that it’s a terrorist group. It’s on the UN Security Council’s list of terrorist groups, and states have to do what the UN Security Council tells them to do. As you know, Pakistan has taken strong steps and helped the international community fight terrorism in the past. “Some of the most important successes against al-Qaeda were made possible by Pakistan’s role and help,” he said.

The spokesman said that August 5 marked the third anniversary of India’s illegal and unilateral actions in 2019 and subsequent steps that were meant to undermine the internationally recognised disputed status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and to change the demographic structure of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K). These actions were done in violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
