The Dua Zahra case: The court denied a request for a second medical examination

The Court in Karachi rejected a plea to undertake a second medical examination of Dua Zahra, a Karachi teenager whose status as a child had previously been disputed. The Investigating Officer DSP Saeed Rind’s appeal was denied by Judicial Magistrate (East) Aftab Ahmed Bughio.

Dua Zahra’s age was previously confirmed by a court-ordered medical board to be between the ages of 15 and 16.

In order to file the challan, the IO requested further time from court. The hearing was postponed until August 6th, and the IO was instructed to bring the challan at the next hearing.

Background

Midway through April, authorities in Karachi received a missing persons complaint for 15-year-old Dua Zahra.

At this point, it was discovered that Zaheer Ahmed, 21, had married Dua Zuhra, who had met him while playing the renowned PUBG online game.

Court rules that Dua may remain with either her parents or Zaheer before being taken to a shelter home by Sindh High Court, where the pair appeared. Afterwards, the Dua Zahra’s parents appealed the Sindh High Court’s ruling to the Supreme Court.

Mehdi Kazmi, the father of Dua Zahar, was urged to take the issue to the appropriate court after the Supreme Court disposed of the appeal contesting the Sindh High Court’s ruling.
