Remarks made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were condemned as unfounded and erroneous by Pakistan on Tuesday.
An official statement from the Foreign Office stated that, in terms of regional stability, mutual collaboration, and shared development, CPEC is a positive initiative.
It is a vehicle for the people of the area to break from zero-sum thinking, he said.
A Chinese investment in Pakistan’s CPEC has helped Pakistan overcome the energy and infrastructure obstacles that earlier stifled growth and development, he claimed.
For decades, he said, South Asia’s socioeconomic progress has been hindered by India’s insecurities and its desire to exert hegemony over the region.
Indian claims that CPEC threatens the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity were rejected, but the spokesman reminded out that India has been unlawfully holding Jammu and Kashmir for almost seven decades.
According to him, India’s efforts to mislead and hide its crimes against the Kashmiri people and its land would never succeed in the world community. According to the official, India was urged to stop spreading lies and spurious assertions about a disputed territory it unjustly occupies via violent force. This disputed territory remains an internationally recognized issue on the United Nations agenda, and “its solution lies in exercise of right to self-determination in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people,” according to the spokesperson.
