The Oil and Gas Development Business Limited (OGDCL) has discovered new gas reserves in Sindh’s Ghotki area, which the company claims would assist the country in overcoming its energy problem.
“On May 9, a well in district Ghotki of Sindh was spudded as an exploratory well to test the hydrocarbon potential of Pirkoh Formation and Habib Rahi Limestone (HRL) to a planned depth of ±785m into HRL,” according to an OGDCL statement.
The well was drilled down to 790m into HRL, according to the OGDCL announcement. Drill stem test-1 in HRL successfully tested 1.063 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) gas through choke size based on the results of wireline logs interpretation.
The business said that it was the Guddu Block Joint Venture, which included OGDCL as the operator (70 percent), SEPL (13.5 percent), IPRTOC (11.5 percent), and GHPL (5 percent ).
The oil and gas company described the recent discovery of gas reserves as a valuable addition to the country’s energy sector in order to help the country overcome its energy crisis, and stated that the discovery of gas reserves was the result of the Guddu Joint Venture Partners’ aggressive exploration strategy.
“It has opened a new route and will favourably contribute to easing energy demand and supply gaps from indigenous resources,” OGDCL stated. “It will also add to OGDCL’s and the country’s hydrocarbon reserves base.”
