Pakistan’s PTI leader, Imran Khan, stated on Thursday that no Pakistani prime minister can manage the country’s foreign policy on his or her own.
On Thursday, former Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke at a news conference at the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, where he outlined PTI’s accomplishments and slammed the coalition government’s management of the economy.
“The nation has the finest economic performance in our period,” he remarked.
Ex-Prime Minister clarified that no prime minister would be able to craft an independent foreign policy without the support of the people. He also said that standing up for one’s country’s interests would be respected, but that if one merely tries to “clean foreign power’s shoes,” they would be looked down upon.
“The more we bend to America, the more they will want us to ‘do more,'” he said.
‘The poor are going to be left behind.’
The poor would be left behind, he stated in response to the government’s announcement last night of a price increase for fuel.
Federal Finance Minister Miftah Ismail announced a rise in the price of oil by Rs24.03, bringing it to a record high of Rs233.89 a litre in order to fulfil the IMF’s requirements.
Because the government can no longer afford to provide subsidies on petroleum goods, Miftah said that the decision to hike prices was a necessary one.
Petrol prices have been hiked for three straight weeks by government intervention.
