ECP’s first survey cuts six NA seats

According to the commission’s announcement, the public has until June 30 to register any objections to the preliminary report.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) preliminary delimitation report, the number of members in the National Assembly has been decreased from 342 to 336 because of the elimination of six constituencies in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

As a result, from 272 to 266 general seats were available.

According to the commission’s announcement, the public has until June 30 to register any objections to the preliminary report.

From the 1st to the 30th of July, the ECP will decide on the objections.

The ECP secretary must be notified of any objections, which must be made in writing in the form of a memorandum.

Each of the objections and maps must be submitted in eight copies to the commission for consideration. No objections will be received through courier, post, or fax. The commission expects to provide the full findings of the delimitations in the second week of August, according to its estimates.

So far, the ECP was pleased with the work being made in defining constituencies.

Work must be done on merit and in line with the timetable set by it, in compliance with the law. It has ordered this.

141 seats in the National Assembly will be allocated to Punjab, 6 to Sindh, 45 to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 16 to Balochistan, and 3 to Islamabad. Those earmarked for women will total 60 seats, while those reserved for minorities would total 10.

There are 788,933 persons in the K-P constituency, Islamabad 667,789, Punjab 7,80069, Sindh 7,845, and Balochistan 7,946 in the NA constituency.

From Attock’s NA-49, Punjab’s NA-189, and Karachi’s NA-250, Sindh’s NA-190 and NA-189 constituencies begin and conclude, respectively. Chitral and Balochistan’s seats in the House of Representatives will be numbered from NA-1 to NA-45, respectively.

NA-46 through NA-48 are the Islamabad seats

According to the commission, Punjab will have 371 seats in the provincial assembly, of which 297 would be reserved for the general public. With 168 seats, and 130 of the general seats, Sindh will have a total number of 168.

65 seats will be allotted to the Balochistan Assembly, with 51 of them being general seats. The K-P Assembly will have 145 seats, of which 115 seats will be general seats, for a total of 145 members.

About 308,713 people live in the Punjab Assembly district, 368,112 in Sindh, 370,336 in K-P, and 241,864 live in the Balochistan Assembly district, according to the ECP.

The tentative results of the 2017 national census were released on January 3, 2018, according to an ECP official.

A one-time constitutional modification granted Article 51(5) for general elections 2018 for the National Assembly and Provincial Assembly allowed the commission to delimit national and provincial assemblies based on these results.

According to Article 51(5) of the Constitution and Section 17 of the Elections Act 2017, constituency delimitation was carried out based on the population in line with the previous official census.

FATA was abolished and replaced with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, according to his remarks.

According to the population, K-P was given six seats instead of FATA’s 12, although FATA had been assigned 12 seats. As a result, the number of National Assembly members has been lowered from 272 to 266.

A few days earlier, on April 4, the commission had said that it would not wait for a new digital census before announcing the delimitation timetable for national and provincial assembly seats for the next general elections.
