Saudi Arabia’s General Civil Aviation Authority has published new rules that prohibit Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from bringing Aab-e-Zamzam water bottles back to their countries in checked luggage.
The water from Zamzam’s well is called Aab-e-Zamzam. Those who undertake Hajj or Umrah carry home as much water as they can, as the water has enormous religious importance for Muslims.
All Saudi Arabian airlines have been instructed to adopt these new standards in time for the holy month of Zil Hajj, when Muslims throughout the world go to Zil Hajj to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.
According to the announcement, Saudi Arabia would take legal action against offenders and airlines operating out of Jeddah or any other Saudi Arabian airport, illegally smuggling Zam Zam.
