Punjab’s former Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has dismissed charges of corruption targeting the PM’s wife Bushra Bibi and her close friend Farah Khan.
He chastised the opposition for bringing bogus claims against housewives, like the first lady and Farah Khan.
“The only goal is to discredit Imran Khan in whatever manner – you will fail because no one can raise a finger at Imran Khan’s honesty!” he tweeted.
He was alluding to disgruntled PTI leaders and opposition members’ charges that Farah Khan was collecting payments to transfer public workers to positions of their choice.
He was likely alluding to an audio leak involving Aleem Khan, whereby he can be heard alleging that Bushra Bibi received jewellery from Malik Riaz, a charge rejected by the Bahria Town owner.
“I vehemently refute the charges levelled by Aleem Khan, Chaudhry Sarwar and other opposition members since they are unfounded and without proof,” tweeted Buzdar.
He said they made all placements on merit and the opposition has a tendency to create unfounded claims.
He claimed the PML-N has yet to show a “single corruption scandal” against him or his government during his term and asked they present proof of their assertions.
Bushra Bibi’s close friend has been in the headlines since the corruption allegations against her surfaced. They reached a fever pitch when it emerged on Sunday that she had gone to Dubai, the day the prime minister sought for the legislatures to be dissolved.
A photo showing her in a private plane sitting with a Hermes bag that is estimated to cost $90,000 also became the centre of significant debate on social media.
PML-N leader Miftah Ismail also remarked on the photo at his news conference on Tuesday.
He claimed that people were urged to eat “one roti” instead of two, but Farah Khan’s bag was worth Rs16.2 million.
