The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned in strong words the mosque attack in Peshawar, which killed over 60 worshipers and urged the UN member states to cooperate with Pakistan to bring attackers to justice.
In a statement issued today, the UNSC President Lana Zaki Nusseibeh of United Arab Emirates (UAE) expressed sympathy with victimsโ families.
โThe members of the Security Council reaffirmed in that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,โ added the statement.
The members reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation.
The council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice.
Meanwhile, the UN Secretary Geneยญral Antonio Guterres also condemned the attack.
โI condemn the horrific attack on a mosque in Peshยญawar during Friday prayers. My condolences to those who lost loved ones, and my solidarity with the people of Pakistan,โ he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Pakistanโs Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram thanked the UN secretary general and the missions of China and the UAE for condemning the attack.
