Zahir Jaffer’s Gardener Appeals His Sentence

Jan Mohammad, who worked as a gardener in Zahir’s home, filed a petition to overturn the judgement of the trial court

ISLAMABAD: On behalf of Jan Mohammad, who was sentenced to 10 years in jail for aiding Zahir Jaffer in the murder of Noor Mukadam, an appeal was submitted on Tuesday.

Through attorney Kamran Murtaza, Jan Mohammad, who worked as a gardener in Zahir’s home, filed a petition to overturn the judgement of the trial court.

Jan Mohammad was not charged in the FIR, but in the supplemental statement, according to the appeal. It was also stated that the PM’s Secretariat employed him and he only worked a few hours a week at Zahir’s residence.

In their view, no evidence had been presented to support the allegations brought against him, hence the conviction should be overturned, according to the report.

According to reports, Zahir’s employees Iftikhar and Mohammad Jan were sentenced on February 24 to ten years in prison and Rs100,000 in fines for aiding and abetting (Section 109), ten years in prison and Rs100,000 in fines for confining a kidnapped person (Section 368), one month in prison and Rs100,000 in fines for omitting information from a public servant (Section 176) (Section 118).

Atta Rabbani, an additional sessions judge, acquitted primary defendant Zahir Jaffer and others in the case, including the Therapy Works staff of abetment in the murder of Noor Mukadam. Zahir Jaffer was sentenced to death.
