ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) today dismissed a plea urging the court to put on exit control list the name of Rana Shamim, ex-chief justice of Gilgit Baltistan.
The IHC also rejected a petition in which the petitioner requested to become a party in the contempt of court case against the former judge.
Lawyer Rai Muhammad Kharal filed theย petitionย on December 3 requesting to place Justice (retd) Shamimโs name on the Exit Control List (ECL) and become a party in the contempt of court case against him.

While dismissing the petition, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that the contempt case was specifically between the court and the accused. โHow can the petitioner expect to become a party in the contempt case,โ the CJ questioned.
At this, the petitioner responded that they were privy to details in the case against Shamim. He urged the court to issue directives to the Ministry of Interior for putting Shamimโs name on the ECL so that he could not flee the country.
The IHC chief justice said the matter didnโt concern the court as it fell under the domain of the government.
Separately, Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan submitted a letter to the IHC to facilitate the summoning of Rana Shamim’s original affidavit from the UK. He also requested the court to make the letter a part of the court record.
According to the letter, the former CJ of Gilgit should give the affidavit to the Pakistan High Commission in London. He added that in order to avoid any sort of ambiguity, the affidavit should be sent to Pakistanโs High Commission London in a sealed envelope.
โThe Pakistan High Commission will send the affidavit to the registrar of the Islamabad High Court through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,โ the top lawyer added.
