Yashma Gill disapproved of the depiction of suicide in her drama Azmaish

The actor confessed to her followers on social media that she didn’t like her character’s end.

Actor Yashma Gill disapproved of the depiction of suicide in her drama Azmaish, on ARY Digital.

Azmaish’s story revolved around the mistreatment of a stepsister at the hands of her two arrogant sisters. Gill played the role of Shiza, one of the two sisters who torment Nimrah, the stepsister. The drama’s finale aired on September 17 and showed Gill’s character taking her own life.

Gill addressed the suicide in her parting thoughts about the drama on Instagram. “As my journey playing Shiza comes to an end, I want to express how much I have enjoyed playing this role,” she said. “Practicing my lines, rehearsing and coming into character everyday on set will be missed. However, there’s a lot I’ve learned as well, especially how one will always have to pay the consequences for doing wrong. The ending was something I did not personally agree with. But as an actress, I have to comply with the team and stick to their decision as they know better!”

Gill also revealed her feelings in reply to a comment by a follower who said the drama should have showed something positive instead of a suicide. “I wasn’t in favour of it myself but sometimes the on air pressure and then the team’s pressure makes you give you in,” she replied.

Gill’s controversial scene comes at a time when certain television dramas have come under scrutiny for depicting violent content on air. Drama Laapata faced criticism by netizens after an episode showed a slap scene.

Azmaish was a Big Bang Entertainment project, written by Samina Aijaz and directed by Fajar Raza.
