Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti announced the arrest of a female suicide bomber during a major security operation on Wednesday. He shared the development while addressing a press conference in the province.
According to the chief minister, security forces acted swiftly and prevented what could have been a devastating attack. He praised the forces for capturing the suspect alive, calling the operation timely and effective.
Bugti expressed gratitude to security personnel for their coordinated response. He said the successful arrest helped avert a potential tragedy and strengthened public confidence in law enforcement efforts.
Concerns Over Exploitation of Women by Militants
During the briefing, the chief minister raised serious concerns about militant groups exploiting Baloch women.
He stated that terrorist networks were undermining respect for women while using them for violent objectives.
He warned that extremist elements were increasingly targeting young people across the province.
According to him, such groups attempt to mislead youth through manipulation and ideological pressure.
Bugti emphasised that the people of Balochistan continue supporting the government. He noted that citizens regularly provide sensitive information that assists security agencies in maintaining stability.
Furthermore, he said the Baloch population values honour and dignity. He added that many individuals were being pushed toward a futile conflict that demands careful reflection.
Statement of the Arrested Woman
During the press conference, the arrested woman, identified as Laiba, delivered a statement. She revealed that she belonged to Khuzdar district and was known locally as Farzana.
Laiba said a Taliban commander named Ibrahim recruited her for a suicide mission. She explained that he gradually influenced her thinking and convinced her to join the operation.
โI was influenced by their words and agreed to become a suicide bomber,โ she stated. She confirmed receiving training for an attack before security forces arrested her.
Additionally, she disclosed that militants assigned her the task of recruiting other girls. She urged women to stay away from criminal activities and avoid extremist networks.
Government Response and Womenโs Protection Measures
Bugti said Laibaโs case exposed how militant groups exploit vulnerable individuals, especially women. He confirmed that issues related to female suspects would be handled through the womenโs police department.
The chief minister stressed that such cases require social awareness alongside security action. He highlighted the importance of protecting women from manipulation and coercion.
Moreover, he reiterated that terrorism contradicts Baloch traditions and cultural values. He said extremist narratives attempt to misuse identity to misguide young people.
Security Situation and Public Cooperation
Bugti stated that cooperation between citizens and authorities has improved the law and order situation. He credited public support as a key factor behind successful operations.
He also claimed that Afghanistan had become a safe haven for terrorist elements. However, he maintained that the people of Balochistan firmly reject terrorism.
According to him, ongoing security measures aim to restore lasting peace in the province. He concluded that preventing radicalisation remains essential for protecting future generations.
A Wider Warning Against Extremism
The chief minister described the incident as a reminder of evolving militant tactics. He warned that extremist groups increasingly target women and youth to advance their agendas.
At the same time, he urged society to remain vigilant and promote awareness. He emphasised that collective responsibility is necessary to counter radicalisation effectively.
The arrest, he said, demonstrated how timely intelligence and cooperation can prevent violence. Authorities continue monitoring threats while encouraging communities to report suspicious activities.
