The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to launch three major road infrastructure projects in Islamabad. These initiatives include the rehabilitation of the Islamabad Expressway Service Road (East), the construction of an underpass at Kashmir Chowk, and the development of 11th Avenue.
Bidding and Consultancy Process
Officials stated that CDA will start receiving bids from consultants for the Service Road (East) and Kashmir Chowk projects today. Meanwhile, bids for the 11th Avenue consultancy are scheduled for February 9.
The selected consultants will prepare design plans and PC-I documents, which will later serve as a basis for inviting financial bids. CDA expects this consultancy phase to take six to eight weeks. Following completion, the authority plans to initiate the tendering process within two months.
Service Road (East) Rehabilitation
The Service Road (East), stretching approximately 9 to 9.5 kilometers from Faizabad to Gulberg Greens along the Islamabad Expressway, will undergo complete rehabilitation. Commuters currently face challenges due to numerous potholes, causing delays between Faizabad and Koral.
Kashmir Chowk Underpass
CDA also plans to construct an underpass at Kashmir Chowk, commonly known as Dhokri Chowk, near Islamabad Club. This project aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in one of the cityโs busiest intersections.
11th Avenue Development
The 11th Avenue project will focus on developing a key road dividing sectors G-11 and G-12. The initiative seeks to enhance connectivity and provide safer commuting options for residents.
Additional Infrastructure Plans
During a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, senior officials reviewed the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects. The chairman emphasized timely completion, mandatory Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and adherence to project deadlines.
Officials also discussed widening Atatรผrk Avenue, installing decorative lights, digital boards, and developing a cycle track along the avenue. Plans for extending Margalla Avenue from N-5 to M-1 within Islamabad Capital Territory were also reviewed. The project will include one loop and two underpasses, with tendering processes nearing completion.
Benefits for Residents
CDA officials highlighted that these projects aim to improve road infrastructure, enhance commuter safety, and provide better facilities for residents of the federal capital. The combined developments are expected to reduce traffic congestion, promote smoother travel, and support Islamabadโs urban growth.
