The Islamabad district administration has initiated the second phase of the motorcycle e-tag, known as the M-Tag, campaign. The move aims to improve monitoring and security across the federal capital. Authorities are urging all motorcycle owners to comply before the deadline.
The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has officially set February 28, 2026, as the final date for motorcycle owners to register and install M-Tags. After this date, strict enforcement measures will be applied.
Strict Enforcement Measures Starting March 1
Director General Excise, Irfan Memon, confirmed that motorcycles without M-Tags will be impounded from March 1. Additionally, riders operating untagged motorcycles will face legal action. Authorities stressed that compliance is mandatory for all residents.
Officials reported that over 2,000 motorcycles have already been tagged during the second phase of the campaign. To manage the increased workload, M-Tag centers will remain operational on holidays. Extra staff has been deployed at registration centers to streamline services.
Importance of M-Tags for Security
The electronic tagging system was introduced due to growing security concerns in Islamabad. Authorities highlight that M-Tags will allow for real-time monitoring of motorcycles. The system is expected to reduce crime, enhance law enforcement capabilities, and ensure accountability among motorcycle owners.
Citizens are encouraged to complete registration promptly. Authorities have emphasized that delays may result in inconvenience, fines, or impoundment of vehicles.
Facilitating Citizens and Ensuring Compliance
The administration has taken steps to make M-Tag registration accessible. These measures include extended operating hours, weekend availability, and additional staff support. The goal is to ensure smooth registration for all motorcycle owners.
By implementing this electronic tagging system, Islamabad authorities aim to strengthen public safety, enforce traffic regulations, and maintain law and order effectively.
Citizens Urged to Act Immediately
Motorcycle owners across Islamabad must register and install M-Tags before February 28 to avoid penalties. The campaign reflects a proactive approach to urban security management.
Authorities stress that adherence to the deadline will contribute to a safer environment for all residents while improving city-wide monitoring and emergency response capabilities.
