WhatsApp is testing new premium customization tools in its Android beta version. These features will allow users to change the appโs theme, icon, and accent color. However, these options will only be available to users who subscribe to WhatsAppโs paid plan.
The new customization tools were spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.6.1. This version is available through the Google Play Store for selected testers. The company is currently evaluating the features before a wider release.
WhatsApp has made it clear that core messaging features will remain free. Only users who want extra customization will need to pay for the premium tier.
Custom Icons and Theme Colors Coming to Premium Users
WhatsAppโs new premium plan focuses on visual personalization. The beta version shows two major features under testing.
The first feature lets users change the app icon. WhatsApp has designed 14 new icons for premium users. The icons include themed designs like Aurora, Fluffy, Galaxy, Clay, Sparkle, and Neon. In addition, there are seven single-color icons in shades like brown, purple, orange, green, blue, pink, and monochrome. Users can also keep the classic WhatsApp icon.
The second feature allows users to change the appโs branding color. This feature resembles a previously tested option on iOS. WhatsApp offers 19 color choices for premium users.

Premium Plan Still Under Development
The customization features are part of WhatsAppโs upcoming premium plan. The premium tier was first spotted in Android beta version 2.26.4.8. The plan will be offered as a monthly subscription, but pricing details are not yet announced. Prices may vary by country.
WhatsApp has emphasized that the premium plan is optional. Free users will still enjoy all basic messaging features. The premium tier will only add extra tools and personalization options.
WhatsApp also stated that the premium plan is still evolving. Some features may be removed or refined before the official launch. Additional features may also be added later based on user feedback.
These new customization tools are still under testing. WhatsApp plans to release them gradually to select beta testers. After gathering feedback, the company will roll out the features to a wider audience.
