Veteran Kashmiri Leader Dies After Prolonged Illness
Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry passed away on Saturday at the age of 71. According to the Pakistan Peoples Party media office, he breathed his last in Islamabad. The PPP statement confirmed that funeral prayers will be offered on Sunday. The prayers will take place at 3 pm in his native village of Chichiyan in Mirpur. Family members, political leaders, and citizens are expected to attend in large numbers. Security and administrative arrangements are also being finalized.
Chaudhry’s death comes at a sensitive time for the nation. It occurred just days before Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed annually on February 5. The day is dedicated to reaffirming support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle. His passing has added a somber tone to national commemorations this year.
