Western Weather System Brings Snow and Rain to Murree
Heavy snowfall accompanied by rain is expected in Murree due to an active western weather system. According to officials, snowfall and rainfall are forecast for today and tomorrow. Snow accumulation is expected to range between 12 and 20 inches in different areas. The weather conditions may affect road access, traffic flow, and tourist movement.
Authorities have warned that intense snowfall could increase the risk of landslides and road blockages. Slippery roads and low visibility are also expected in higher elevations. Tourists and local residents have been advised to remain cautious during this period. Travel to sensitive areas may be restricted if conditions worsen.
The Punjab Government has taken early measures to manage the situation. The focus remains on public safety, traffic control, and uninterrupted emergency services. Officials are closely monitoring weather developments to respond promptly to any challenges.
Provincial Minister Reviews Snowfall Preparedness in Murree
Provincial Minister for Communications Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth visited Murree to assess preparedness. He chaired a meeting with the district administration and concerned departments. Officials briefed him on arrangements for snowfall management, road clearance, and landslide prevention.
During the briefing, the minister was informed about snowfall forecasts and emergency planning. Authorities shared updates on machinery readiness and manpower deployment. Sensitive roads and critical points have been identified for priority monitoring. Continuous surveillance of vehicles entering Murree has also been ordered.
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth directed officials to ensure an immediate response during emergencies. He stressed that no delays would be tolerated in rescue or road clearance operations. The minister instructed departments to maintain constant coordination with the Pakistan Meteorological Department. Timely weather updates will guide operational decisions.
Government Ensures Coordination and Tourist Safety Measures
As part of his visit, the provincial minister inspected key roads in Murree. He visited salt camps and tourist facilitation centers to review services. Snow-clearing machines and road-clearing equipment operated by the mechanical wing were also inspected.
The minister confirmed that sufficient salt bags are available in storage rooms. These supplies are ready for immediate use during snowfall. He also stated that 13 tourist facilitation centers in Murree are fully operational. These centers will assist visitors with guidance, emergency support, and information.
Coordination among all departments has been emphasized. These include the Highway Department, District Administration, Traffic Police, Rescue 1122, and other relevant agencies. Joint efforts aim to ensure smooth traffic flow and quick response to emergencies.
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth said the Punjab Government remains fully active during the snowfall period. Facilities for tourists and local residents will remain available. A comprehensive policy is being finalized to manage the expected snowstorm effectively.
Senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner Murree and the Assistant Commissioner, were present during the visit. Officers from the Highway Department and Mechanical Wing also attended. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety and minimizing disruptions during heavy snowfall.
