On Wednesday, authorities uncovered a shocking case of illegal wildlife ownership in Lahore after a pet lioness attacked an eight-year-old girl in a residential neighborhood. The incident raised concerns about the risks posed by keeping wild animals in urban homes.
Police confirmed that the child suffered injuries to her leg and ear; however, doctors reported her condition as stable after prompt medical treatment. Residents expressed alarm, while officials stressed that unregulated ownership endangers both the public and the animals.
Consequently, law enforcement agencies intensified coordination with wildlife authorities to ensure swift accountability and stronger deterrence across the city.

According to the Deputy Inspector General of Operations, the attack occurred in the Bhekewal Pind area. Officers responded quickly and facilitated the girl’s transfer to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Meanwhile, investigators determined that the lioness was kept illegally inside a private residence. The animal’s owners allegedly attempted to flee with the lioness to avoid arrest; however, coordinated teams established checkpoints and expanded surveillance.
As a result, police and Punjab Wildlife Department officials tracked the suspects to Nawankot and completed arrests within three hours, demonstrating effective interagency collaboration.
